Bikes for Kids
September 16, 2009
Tulsa Transit bus operator Bruce French knows there are a lot of children who ride Tulsa Transit buses who can’t afford a bicycle, but could certainly use one. He wants to do something about it. “I’d really like to see these kids get rebuilt bikes for the holidays this year,” said French. “I see kids walking from bus stops to home or school and a bike could really come in handy for them.”
Tulsa Transit bus drivers are working with French to identify the kids ages 5 to 15 who ride the bus and could benefit from a rebuilt bicycle.
French is doing all the work himself to get the bikes rebuilt and to look like new again. Bikes that are not claimed from Tulsa Transit’s lost and found are being donated to this cause. French also has some help from Tom’s Bikes’ shop where he is getting parts for the bikes. French said, “I already have 30 bikes ready to go, and three more that I’m working on now. But we will need a lot more used bikes to take care of all the kids who need one. Our goal is to have 75 bikes to give away during the holidays.”
If anyone has a used bicycle that can be rebuilt to donate to this cause, please deliver it to customer service at one of these Tulsa Transit facilities or call 582-2100 and tell us where we can pick it up.
